In 2020, Wayne County was awarded a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration, via RCORP, Rural Communities Opioid Response Program.

Several studies have indicated that the rate of Opioid overdose in persons over the age of 20 in Wayne County, Georgia is among the highest in the state. As indicated in the reports linked below, Wayne County is the third highest in the state cumulative from 2012 to 2019, for ER visits related to drug use 20+ years of age.

As indicated in the GA DPH Drug Surveillance Unit report below in 2020, overdose deaths by drug type show Wayne County leading cause of overdose deaths as Opioids, with Fentanyl being second, and Heroin third.
